Sydney Street Photography Adventure, Newtown (The Poetic Witness)

The Aperture Club, a renowned photography school in Greater Sydney, NSW, offers an immersive experience called ''The Poetic Witness'', a street photography course that will help you document historic events, capture the spirit of a city while traveling, or simply appreciate the beauty of your local community.

Newtown, with its diversity, thriving street culture, and street art, is the perfect backdrop for this course. The workshop begins at Café Newtown, where you''ll meet your professional photographer tutor and assistant, and a small group of fellow photography enthusiasts. Together, you''ll explore the urban landscape that unfolds as markets set up, cafes open, and people fill the streets.

During this 8 am to 12 pm workshop, you''ll learn how to improve your power of observation, identify your points of interest, compose shots, and understand the quality and properties of light. You''ll also learn street awareness and etiquette, candid photography techniques, how to predict and time a great moment, approach people and request a portrait, and how to be inconspicuous.

The course covers a range of topics, including composition, quality and properties of light, street awareness and etiquette, candid photography techniques, approaching people and requesting a portrait, how to be inconspicuous, choice of camera equipment, and more. By the end of this unique workshop, you''ll have photographed a charming visual story of one of Sydney''s most iconic communities and have learned sharp observation, quick reflexes, and people skills to help you create high-impact images you''ll be proud of.

This photography course is perfect for beginners and advanced photographers who want to improve their street photography skills, tell stories with photography, and build confidence in meeting and photographing new people.

To join this workshop, bring a digital SLR camera or compact camera with manual settings and a built-in flash, a lens hood, a cleaning cloth, at least one empty memory card, at least one set of spare batteries, camera manual, camera bag, water bottle, snacks, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, hat, and comfortable, inconspicuous clothing.

Detailed course notes will be emailed to you on completion of each workshop. Camera kits are available for an additional fee if you want to experiment using a professional DSLR camera. Workshops do not include drinks, meals/snacks, public transport, or parking.
