Wreck Of The Aarhus And Smith's Rock

Brisbane Scuba Services invites you to discover one of Queensland''s most significant historic shipwrecks, the Aahrus, located near Smith Rock in the stunning waters of Greater Brisbane. This 640-tonne sailing barque met its fate in 1894 when it was grounded on the rock and sank in just 12 minutes.

Smith Rock, situated approximately 2 nautical miles off the coast of Moreton Island, features three pinnacles, with the highest rising to about 6m below the surface. While its jagged granite beauty is a sight to behold, it has proven treacherous to the shipping fraternity. The rock''s rugged honeycombed terrain and plenty of structure make it a magnet for a profusion of fish, including batfish, butter bream, cod, angelfish, beaked coralfish, clownfish, and damsels.
